Birmingham is an exciting and vibrant City that is continually changing and adapting to new challenges and opportunities. Over the last decade the City has transformed itself, capturing for itself a new sense of pride and purpose. Much of the physical landscape has changed and is still changing with great benefits for many citizens and visitors - but a modern city needs to be more than this. We now need to continue in our effort to create more economically and socially cohesive communities with access to good quality services.
The newly elected administration, a progressive partnership, is committed to the aim of developing a city of strong communities. Supporting people to take pride in their area and feel that they have a say about their needs and aspirations is yet another critical step in the City’s continuing transformation.
To achieve this, the Council is changing fundamentally both culturally and structurally and has embarked upon major changes to the way we organise and deliver services. The first of these went live in April with the implementation of the devolution and localisation agenda to 11 District Committees'. We now need just 4 more District Directors to complete the jigsaw and drive the programme forward.
